Manoj Pillai is an Indian filmmaker based in Bangalore. He has directed over 200 advertising commercials for brands in India and abroad.

Early life and education

Pillai was born in the village of Cheppad, Kerala in southern India. He studied at the Govt. Boys High School, Haripad and then completed his B.E in mechanical engineer from PESIT Bangalore. After graduation, he joined KPB advertising as a copywriter and then moved to McCann Erickson, Bangalore. It was there where he was introduced to Santosh Sivan, who cast him in his movie 'Malli' as a forest officer.

Career

Manoj Pillai receiving the Inspired Indian Foundation award from the Honorable Governor of Karnataka, Dr. H.R Bharadwaj for inspiring numerous first time voters in India with the Google – The Long Walk commercial.

Pillai ventured into directing commercials with a campaign for BPL mobile. In 2001, he founded Thinkpot, an advertising production house in India. Since then, he has created landmark commercials for brands such as Google, Incredible India, Volkswagen, Intel, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Air Deccan, Levi's, Nike, HP, Samsung, BCCI-IPL, Indian Super League, Tata Motors, Tanishq, Ford, Fiat etc. His work has won several accolades from   D&AD, Clio, New York Festivals, Campaign Age, Work, ADFEST, Goa fest, ABBYS, AAAI to name a few.
