Manjeet Chillar (born 18 August 1986) is an Indian professional kabaddi player who was born in a Jat family. He was a member of the India national kabaddi team and won Asian games gold medal in 2014 and Asian Indoor Games in 2014 in Incheon.
The government of India conferred the Arjuna Award on him for his achievements in sports.[1][2] In an exclusive chat with NNIS Sports, Chillar termed it as a 'dream' to receive the prestigious award. "He was also the member of state team of Haryana."
Early life
He was born in Nizampur located in the state of Haryana, India. Manjeet Chillar was initially a wrestler, but an injury to his nose saw him return to his village where he started playing Kabaddi.[3]
Pro Kabaddi League
He was the captain of Bangaluru Bulls in Pro Kabaddi League season 1 and season 2 and captain of Puneri Paltan in season 3 and season 4.He became captain of Jaipur Pink Panthers in season 5.He is a player of Tamil Thalaivas in season 6 of Pro Kabaddi League after the Tamil Nadu based franchise picked him.
He won his team a grand total of 51 points – the highest by any defender – to emerge with the Star Sports Defender of the Tournament Award in season 2.[4]
He was awarded the most valuable player of the tournament award in the second season of pro kabaddi.[5]
World Cup 2016 and Awards
Chillar was a member of the gold medal-winning team at the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup.[6]
Manjit is a gold medallist in the National Championships in 2010, 2011 and 2012. He has also won gold at the Asian Indoor games in 2009 and the 2010 Asian games. He claimed bronze at the 2012 Asian beach games.[5]
