Mandy Greenfield

Early career

Prior to joining WTF, Ms. Greenfield served as Artistic Producer of Manhattan Theatre Club where she produced more than seventy-five world and American premiere plays and musicals both on and off Broadway.

The plays she commissioned, developed, selected and produced have garnered every major theatrical honor including the Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award, Lucile Lortel Awards, Drama Desk Awards, Obie Awards, and the Kleban Prize in Musical Theatre. Most recently, the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Drama was awarded to Martyna's Majok's COST OF LIVING which Ms. Greenfield developed and premiered at Williamstown Theatre Festival; the Williamstown production of COST OF LIVING transferred to Manhattan Theatre Club.

Select credits from her tenure at MTC, where she oversaw production at both The Samuel J. Friedman Theater (on Broadway) and at City Center (off-Broadway) include: Benjamin Scheuer’s THE LION (Drama Desk Award), Tarell Alvin McCraney’s CHOIR BOY, Nell Benjamin’s THE EXPLORER’S CLUB, Julia Jordan and Juliana Nash’s MURDER BALLAD, Matthew Lopez’s THE WHIPPING MAN (Outer Critics Circle Award), David Lindsay-Abaire’s GOOD PEOPLE (two Tony Award nominations, one Tony Award for Leading Actress Frances McDormand) and RABBIT HOLE (five Tony Award nominations, one Tony Award in Leading Actress Category for Cynthia Nixon, 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Drama), Lynn Nottage’s RUINED (2009 Pulitzer Prize for Drama), Theresa Rebeck’s MAURITUS (Tony Award nomination) and John Patrick Shanley’s DOUBT (five Tony Award Nominations, Tony Award for Best Play, for Direction and in two acting categories, 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama).

Until April of 2003, Ms. Greenfield was the Producer of Basic Grammar, a company she founded, under the auspices of which she produced critically acclaimed off-Broadway premieres such as BETTY RULES directed by Michael Greif and Daniel Goldfarb’s MODERN ORTHODOX in co-production with Long Wharf Theater, among others.

From 1998 until 2001, Ms. Greenfield was the Producer of Blue Light Theater Company where she produced several premieres, including Darko Tresnjak’s Drama Desk nominated PRINCESS TURANDOT (which subsequently enjoyed a successful run at The Westport Country Playhouse) and Daniel Goldfarb's ADAM BAUM AND THE JEW MOVIE starring Ron Leibman, which won the 1999-2000 Newsday Oppenheimer Award for Best New York Debut. At Blue Light, she produced other world or New York premiere productions by Jessica Goldberg, Helen Edmundson and Philip Ridley.

Ms. Greenfield served on the Board of the Association of Non-Profit Companies (ANTC) from 2001 until 2003. She has lectured or given master classes at Williams College, The New School, New York University, Brooklyn College, Fordham University and Columbia University. In January 2018, she joined the board of The Lilly Award Foundation.

Ms. Greenfield is a founder and former Board Member of Step Up Women’s Network, New York, a not-for-profit organization that brings together women in the entertainment and new media industries to create and strengthen resources for women and girls in New York City. Ms. Greenfield served on the board of Planned Parenthood of New York City from 2007-2010.

In the spring of 2006, Ms. Greenfield’s essay “First-Person Singular: Female Writers Embrace the One-Person Play,” appeared in Women Writing Plays, published by the University of Texas Press.

Williamstown Theatre Festival

Ms. Greenfield joined the Festival in the fall of 2014 and very soon thereafter, she expanded the New Play Development initiatives of WTF with the establishment of a New Play and Musical Commissioning Program and the creation of a Playwright-in-Residence position at the Festival. Artists currently under commission include Meghan Kennedy, Justin Levine, Matthew Lopez, Marsha Norman, Zoe Sarnak, Lucy Thurber and Bess Wohl among others.

The recipient of a 2017 Lilly Award, Ms. Greenfield serves on the Advisory Board of the Drama League. She is an Artistic Advisor to The Relentless Award, given in honor of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, to a playwright for an outstanding new work. She has been a judge and director of The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, the largest cash award given to an English-language play by a female playwright in recognition of a play of outstanding quality.
