Malla Kshatriya

Malla Kshatriya or Malo are indigenous caste to Bengal. They are by origin Brahmakshatriya whose father was a Rigvedic Brahmin and mother was any daughter from the Varman dynasty. They are Chandravansis (descending from lunar dynasty). Although in the period of Sena dynasty they were considered to be Shudras but ancient texts suggest that they were a mixed race of Brahmins and Kshatriyas. They have the rite of Upanayana. In Hindu varna division, Brahmakshatriya or Murdhabhishikta are people who have a Brahmin father and a Kshatriya mother; or in the Hindu varna division, Brahmin who pursues royalty, and hence concurrently adopts the Kshatriya varna or those Kshatriya who had adopted Brahmin varna because of Shree Parsuram. According to Manusmriti, such people are treated equal to Brahmins. Parasurama is a classical example of a Brahmakshatriya.[1][2]
