Malaika Mihambo (born 3 February 1994) is a German long jumper and current European champion in this event.

Career

She finished ninth at the 2011 World Youth Championships, then competed at the 2012 World Junior Championships and the 2013 World Championships without reaching the final.[2] She also won the gold medal at the 2013 European Junior Championships and finished fourth at the 2014 European Championships. She won her first senior gold medal at the 2014 European Team Championships, setting the new championships record with a jump of 6,90 metres. In 2015 she won a gold medal at the 2015 European U23 Championships and finished sixth at the 2015 World Championships. She narrowly missed medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics, finishing fourth, but won a bronze medal at the 2016 European Athletics Championships. In 2018 she finished fifth at the 2018 World Indoor Championships and won a gold medal at the 2018 European Championships.

Her personal best in long jump is 6.99 m, achieved on 26 May 2018 in Weinheim (GER). She represents the club LG Kurpfalz.

Personal life

Her father is German and her mother comes from Tanzania.[3] She studies political science at the University of Mannheim.[4]
