Mahul is a neighborhood in Mumbai in the Trombay area, infamously referred as "where the poor are sent to die".[1] Mahul is a quiet little fishing village away from the hustle and bustle of Mumbai that has recently seen a large influx of low-income residents having been rehabilitated by the state municipal authorities. Recent reports suggest high content of toxic elements in air and water of the area, leading to severe ailments, even death in some cases, of the rehabilitated people just within a year. The population majorly consists of Koli community who were the first inhabitants of Mumbai.

Mahul Koli Mahotsav is celebrated every year by villagers which provides entertainment and great food for fish lovers. The deity of the Koli community is Ekvira Devi. There have been at least 23 deaths that have occurred around this area. Authorities play the usual blame game where the BMC(Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation), blames the Government of Maharashtra and the State Government blames the previous State Government that was in power.
