Maharlika International School (MIS) is a Philippine international school in Dili, East Timor. It offers pre-school up to secondary school education as well as courses on English language and Financial Management.[1]

History

As Dili Education & Development Center

Maharlika International School was established as the Dili Education & Development Center (DEDC) in September 8, 2008 by Executive Director Martin Banaken Papay Jr. primarily serving Timorese and Filipino migrants in East Timor. The educational institution first operated in Fomento 1 in a small house initially with only 6 students. On its first school year, DEDC offered preparatory up to Grade IV programs and English Language Courses and had 21 students by the end of the school year.[2]

As Maharlika International School

DEDC managed to secure a business license from the East-Timorese Ministry of Tourism, Commerce & Industry on March 4, 2009. DEDC changed its name to Maharlika International School (MIS) to comply with the requirements school's Articles of Ownership with the Department of Registry & Notary Public of the Ministry of Justice. The new name of the school was first announced during the Second Foundation Day of the school on September 8, 2010 held at the MIS ground.[2]

MIS transferred to Fatuhada on April 30, 2010 and additional classrooms were built in order to accommodate more students student populace.[2]

The Philippine Department of Education (DepEd) authorized MIS to adopt the Philippine Curriculum for Pre-School and Elementary Levels On January 3, 2011 and on July 19–23 two officials from DepEd's Bureau of Secondary Education and Bureau of Elementary Education visited MIS for the ocular inspection of the school as part of the second stage of accreditation of the school as a Philippine School Overseas.[2]

DepEd granted the MIS on October 10, 201 a Provisional Permit to adopt the Philippine Curriculum for Secondary Level and renewed its Provisional Permit for both Pre-School and Elementary Levels. The school is on its third stage of accreditation procedure for the Certificate of Recognition to be issued by DepEd.[2]
