The Magdalena River turtle or Rio Magdalena river turtle[2] (Podocnemis lewyana) is a species of turtle in the family Podocnemididae. It is endemic to Colombia, where it is confined to the Magdalena River basin.[2]

The species has been classified as Critically Endangered by the IUCN due to rapid population losses caused by habitat destruction (principally by dams) and traditional and commercial exploitation.[1]
