Macropholidus is a genus of lizards in the family Gymnophthalmidae. The genus is endemic to South America.

Species

The genus Macropholidus contains four species which are recognized as being valid.[1][2]

  • Macropholidus annectens Parker, 1930
  • Macropholidus ataktolepis Cadle & Chuna, 1995
  • Macropholidus huancabambae (Reeder, 1996)
  • Macropholidus ruthveni Noble, 1921

Nota bene: A binomial authority in parentheses indicates that the species was originally described in a genus other than Macropholidus.

Etymology

The specific name, ruthveni, is in honor of American herpetologist Alexander Grant Ruthven.[3]

Geographic range

M. annectens is found in Ecuador. The other three species, M. ataktolepis, M. huancabambae, and M. ruthveni, are all found in Peru.[1]
