Lucy McLauchlan (born c. 1978[1]) is a contemporary artist from Birmingham, England. She is part of the "Beat 13!" collective.

Artwork

McLauchlan works with markers, pen or paint, in black & white,[1] on surfaces as varied as paper, motor vehicles and buildings. Her work features recurring motifs, one of which is birds and faces. Her work is usually in mono tone or with basic colours such as red. HuffPost blog described it as "a combination of art deco and psychedelic motifs and bold graphics".[2]

Her work has appeared in magazines including Hidden Tracks, Hand to Eye, Creative Review, Graphic International, DPM, Graphic Britain, IdN magazine, Modart, Relax and Plus81.

In 2001, she and Beat 13! had an exhibition at the Horse Hospital arts venue in central London. Her first solo London show, Expressive Deviant Phonology, ran from December 2007-January 2008, at Lazarides Gallery in Soho.[3]

Lucy McLauchlan has been represented by Lazarides since the exhibition Expressive Deviant Phonology in 2007[4] and continues to show with the gallery regularly.

In July 2010, she painted three multi-storey birds on Birmingham Central Library.[5][6][2] These were lost when the library was subsequently demolished, although a fragment, on a wooden door which was removed prior to demolition, survives.
