Lucy Beaumont (born 1983) is a British stand-up comedian from Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire. Her act is based largely on stereotypes about Hull and the wider Northern England region. She won the BBC Radio New Comedy Award in 2012 and was a finalist on So You Think You're Funny in 2011.

Early life

Beaumont grew up in the Spring Bank area of Hull and later lived in the village of Hessle, near Hull with her mother, playwright Gill Adams. She once worked at the meat counter of Asda in Hessle Road, West Hull. She attended Wyke 6th form college.

Although she had a brief acting career,[1] she switched to comedy in an attempt to conquer stage fright in preparation for an acting career[2] and was inspired by her sitcom-like life in Hull. Her first gig was for the 2011 So You Think You're Funny competition,[3] for which she would later become a finalist.[4]

Career

Beaumont has appeared, among others, on BBC Three's Live at the Electric and on Dave's Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled.

In 2014 Beaumont presented her show We Can Twerk It Out at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.[5]

Beaumont's radio show To Hull and Back received a pilot on BBC Radio 2 in 2014 and a full series was ordered. It was broadcast in 2015 on BBC Radio 4[6] and was renewed for a second series. It was also played on BBC Radio Humberside later that year.[7]

She won an award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for her show and appeared on BBC Three's Live at the Electric. She is known for her observational comedy about her home city of Kingston upon Hull including the local dialect and food like patties and chip spice. In 2015 she starred in and co-wrote the BBC Radio 4 comedy To Hull and Back starring fellow Hull actor Maureen Lipman, she also wrote an article in The Guardian about Hull as it prepared to be UK City of Culture.[8]

Personal life

Beaumont married comedian Jon Richardson in April 2015.[9][10] Their first child, a daughter called Elsie, was born in September 2016.
