Love for the Elderly is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with volunteers from 56 countries that "strives to bring love and kindness to our elders."[1]

History

When founder Jacob Cramer's grandfather died following a drawn-out battle with lung cancer in 2010,[2] Cramer was profoundly affected, as their relationship had been very strong.[3] Motivated by his grief to do something to make a difference in his grandfather's honor, Cramer, 13, began handwriting simple letters of kindness to send to seniors in nursing homes, which would eventually become his Letters of Love program, which has collected and distributed over 25,000 handwritten letters to lonely seniors.[4][5] Over the past three years, Love for the Elderly has grown internationally, with the sole mission of eponymously providing "love for the elderly."[6]

Press

Cramer's nonprofit has garnered significant media coverage, particularly in recent years, like The Chive,[7] and the Cleveland Jewish News.[8] Projecting Love for the Elderly into the international spotlight even further, the organization was featured on the cover of American Profile in 2016. Directly after this, their inclusion in GLAMOUR Magazine's 31 days of kindness alongside other notable nonprofits like Oxfam and One.org[9] was critically received by the public. They were covered by Rede Record – the 5th largest TV network in the world – for their humanitarian work in Brazil.[10]

In 2016, founder Jacob Cramer spoke on national daytime talk show HARRY [8][11] on behalf of his global organization's initiatives.

World Kindness Movement

In 2015, Love for the Elderly joined the 4 largest kindness-centered nonprofits in the USA, becoming one of the 5 USA-based members of the World Kindness Movement.[12]
