Sybrand Jacobus Lodewikus "Louis" van Schoor is a South African serial killer, former policeman and security guard who committed murders between 1986 and 1989. He was convicted of seven murders and two assassinations.[1] However, he told a reporter that he has killed more than 100 people.[2]
Murders
Van Schoor was hired as a security guard after he had served as a police officer.
He would react to the silent alarm when it was triggered in businesses he monitored and to dispatch of the intruders with his 9mm pistol immediately.
Most of his victims were black men and so suspicions were that his murders were racially motivated, but van Schoor denied that and declared the deaths of the burglars by saying that he had "just done his job".[3]
Imprisonment
Van Schoor was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for seven murders and two assassinations. While serving his sentence, according to the statements of a prison employee, he is said to have behaved like an "exemplary prisoner" and to have demonstrated leadership qualities.
After serving twelve years in prison, Van Schoor was released on parole.
