Los ricos no piden permiso (English: The rich do not ask for permission) is a 2016 Argentine telenovela produced by Pol-ka and broadcast by El Trece from January 11 to December 26, 2016.[1][2][3][4][5]

Plot

Santa Elena is an estancia located near the remote small village of La Cruz. It is home of the Villalba, the siblings Antonio (Juan Darthés), Agustín (Gonzalo Heredia) and Ana (Sabrina Garciarena), and their uncles Lisandro (Raúl Taibo) and Bernarda (Leonor Benedetto). They are close friends with Marcial Campos (Luciano Cáceres), the mayor of La Cruz. Elena Rodríguez (Agustina Cherri), secretly the daughter of Lisandro, gets a job as a maid at the estancia, and falls in love with Agustín, who has just got married with Josefina (Eva de Dominici). Julia Monterrey (Araceli González) gets a job as the teacher of Clara (Guadalupe Manent), the young daughter of Antonio, who is still reclusive after the death of his wife years in the past. Marcial and the doctor Victoria (Julieta Cardinali) discover that the water of a lake somehow has the power to bring people back to life.

Production

The first episode had a cameo by the actress Norma Aleandro, whose character is killed at the end of the episode.[6] She returned to the telenovela when Bernarda was killed, as a ghost who takes her to the afterlife.[7]

Initially, the characters of Castro and González were meant to become a couple, but according to González, the writers kept her with Darthes because of the positive rception to the couple. Castro was upset because of those comments, because he had initially suggested the producer Adrián Suar to take González for the role. He requested the writers to make some other romance for him, and for this purpose Juana Viale joined the cast in July.[8][9]

Benedetto and Ajaka were removed from the telenovela when their contracts expired.[10] The characters of Benedetto were killed, and Ajaka escaped from the police.

Reception

The telenovela was first aired nearing the end of the successful Esperanza mía. That telenovela had a rating of 12.6 and Los ricos... grew it to 13.7, against 12.4 for ¿Qué culpa tiene Fatmagul? in Telefe.[11] Telefe opposed it with their own telenovela, La Leona, and both ones got similar ratings.[12] Telefe then tried with another production, Educando a Nina, which got higher ratings.[13]
