Lolita Roy

Lolita Roy (born circa 1865), also known as PL Roy, was a British suffragist.[1][2]

Roy was born in Calcutta, India.[3] In 1901, she moved to London with her six children.[2]

She is believed to have been an important organizer of the Women's Coronation Procession (a march through London on 17 June 1911, slightly before King George V's coronation, demanding women's suffrage in the coronation year), and she marched as part of it with either her sisters or her daughters.[4][5][2] She had three daughters, Miravati, Hiravati and Leilavati, as well as three sons.[1]

She also served as president of an Indian nationalist group, the London Indian Union Society, and raised money for Indian women's education.[2]

Her name and picture (and those of 58 other women's suffrage supporters) are on the plinth of the statue of Millicent Fawcett in Parliament Square, London, unveiled in 2018.[6][7][8]
