Liu Ruofan (Chinese: 刘若钒; pinyin: Liú Ruòfán; Mandarin pronunciation: [ljǒu ɻwô fǎn]; born 28 January 1999) is a Chinese footballer who currently plays for Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League.

Club career

Liu Ruofan joined Shanghai Shenhua's youth academy from Genbao Football Base with a fee of ¥300,000 in 2015.[1] He received training with Inter Milan youth academy in April 2016 and Villarreal CF U-18 team in September 2016.[2][3]

Liu was promoted to Shanghai Shenhua's first team squad in 2017 by Gus Poyet.[4] On 5 May 2017, he made his senior debut in a 3–2 away loss against Guangzhou Evergrande as the benefit of the new rule of the league that at least one Under-23 player must be in the starting line-up and was substituted off by Wang Shouting in the 17th minute.[5] On 19 November 2017, he assisted Obafemi Martins's wining goal at the first leg of 2017 Chinese FA Cup final against city rivals Shanghai SIPG,[6] which finally secured Shanghai Shenhua win the FA Cup title. At the end of the 2017 season, Liu went on to make six appearances in all competitions for Shanghai Shenhua, and won the Chinese Golden Boy (U-18) award in December 2017.[7] On 22 September 2018, he scored his first senior goal in a 2–1 away defeat against Dalian Yifang.[8]

International career

Liu scored four goals in three appearances during 2018 AFC U-19 Championship qualification in October 2017 as China U20 team qualified for the 2018 AFC U-19 Championship.[9]
