This is a list of the first minority male lawyer(s) and judge(s) in Ohio. It includes the year in which the women were admitted to practice law (in parentheses). Also included are women who achieved other distinctions such becoming the first in their state to obtain a law degree or become a political figure.

Firsts in state history

  • John Mercer Langston (1854):[1] First African American male lawyer in Ohio
  • Perry B. Jackson (1922):[2][3] First African American male judge in Ohio (1942)
  • George Washington White (1955):[4] First African American male appointed as a Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio (1980) and to serve as its Chief Judge (1995)
  • Nathaniel R. Jones (1957):[5] First African American male appointed as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio (1962). He would later become a judge.
  • Joseph Flores (1964):[6][7][8] Reputed to be the first Latino American male elected judge in Ohio (1981)
  • Robert Morton Duncan (1952):[9] First African American male appointed as a Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court (1969), as well as the first Judge of the U.S. Court of Military Appeals (1971)
