Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee has won 106 awards from 307 nominations. He has been nominated for nine American Music Awards, 12 Billboard Music Awards, 48 Billboard Latin Music Awards, four Grammy Awards, nine Latin American Music Awards and 23 Latin Grammy Awards. He has received 21 Billboard Latin Music Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards –the most by any Latin artist–,[1] five Latin Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, and two Latin American Music Awards.
He rose to prominence with the release of his third studio album Barrio Fino in 2004. The album garnered him a Latin Grammy Award for Best Urban Music Album and a nomination for a Latin Grammy Award for Record of the Year (for "Gasolina"). The record's second single "Lo Que Pasó, Pasó" received an ASCAP Award for Latin Song of the Year. A follow-up live album Barrio Fino en Directo (2005) received a Billboard Latin Music Award for Reggaeton Album of the Year and a Lo Nuestro Award for Urban Album of the Year. His fourth album El Cartel: The Big Boss (2007) garnered him a nomination for a Grammy Award for Best Latin Urban Album and won a Billboard Latin Music Award for Latin Album of the Year. Its lead single "Impacto" was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Urban Song.
His soundtrack Talento de Barrio (2008) garnered him Latin Grammy Award nominations for Best Urban Music Album and Best Urban Song (for "Llamado de Emergencia"). His fifth album Mundial (2010) garnered him Latin Grammy Award nominations for Best Urban Music Album and Best Urban Song (for "Descontrol" and "Grito Mundial"). His sixth album Prestige (2012) also garnered Latin Grammy Award nominations for Best Urban Music Album and Best Urban Song (for "Ven Conmigo", "Lovumba", and "Limbo"). "Limbo" received an ASCAP Award for Latin Song of the Year. His mixtape King Daddy (2013) was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Urban Music Album.
His guest feature on Luis Fonsi's "Despacito" (2017) garnered him four Latin Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year, as well as Grammy Award nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. The single also received six Billboard Latin Music Awards, five Billboard Music Awards, two American Music Awards, and an ASCAP Latin Music Award.
Daddy Yankee was recognized as Latin Songwriter of the Year by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers in 2006 and 2017, and received a Voice of Music Award in 2014. In 2006, he was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.[2] In 2008, he was recognized as Latino of the Year by Harvard University's Latin American cultural show Presencia Latina for his social work through his foundation Corazón Guerrero. In March 2017, he became the first urban artist to receive his own star at the Puerto Rican Walk of Fame sidewalk. His career was also recognized at the 2016 Billboard Latin Music Awards by receiving the Industry Leader award.
