List of Vietnam War flying aces
The US had confirmed 245 air-to-air US aircraft losses[1] while the figures for North Vietnam range from 195 North Vietnamese aircraft from US claims[2] to 131 from Soviet, North Vietnamese and allied records.[3] Air-to-air losses of US fighter jets were alleged to have been re-attributed to surface-to-air missile, as it was considered "less embarrassing".[4] See flying ace section on the Vietnam War for a further discussion. Of the known aces, there are a total of 17 North Vietnamese, 5 US and 1 Soviet ace pilot.
