List of NSW Central Coast Cricket First Grade Premiers

This is a list of the winners of First Grade Cricket Premiership competitions held on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. In the seasons when a final, final series or grand final was held, the major premiers are listed.

The current competition is conducted under the auspices of the Central Coast Cricket Association, an affiliate of Country Cricket New South Wales and Cricket NSW.

Whilst cricket was played in the region, now known as the Central Coast, from 1858 through the remainder of the 19th Century, the first organised competition was held in the 1899-1900 season. Matches were played in a single afternoon on alternate Saturdays. This allowed clubs to continue to receive visits from clubs in Sydney and play social matches. The final of this inaugural "Badge" competition was held over four Saturdays, March 10, 17, 24 and 31. Wyong 147 and 147, were defeated by Ourimbah 101 and 7-196.

In the following season, 1900–01, one round of matches was played before the competition was abandoned. In 1903-04, a competition called "Smith" was underway. Unfortunately, however, there are no subsequent articles in the local newspapers of early 1904. The local newspaper from this period, The Gosford Times is not available from January 1908 to June 1911. This absence of original sources in some seasons is not isolated. Consequently, the premiers of some competitions are not known.

A competition was held in 1906-07 under the name the "Brisbane Water District Cricket Association". In 1911-12, strengthened by a few players who had previously played at other clubs, Narara entered the Newcastle District Cricket Association Senior Grade competition and won it. They were less successful in 1912-13, which is also the season that the Wyong District Cricket Association was formed. The Gosford District Cricket Association was formed after the First World War. The two associations ran in parallel for most of the next fifty years, before a drop in player numbers lead to amalgamation. The association was renamed in 2003.

Table Notes
  • Assoc = Association
  • BWDCA = Brisbane Water District Cricket Association
  • NDCA = Newcastle District Cricket Association. In 1911-12 and 1912-13 Narara competed in the Newcastle Senior Grade competition.
  • WDCA = Wyong District Cricket Association. Established in 1912.
  • GDCA = Gosford District Cricket Association. Established in 1920.
  • GWDCA = Gosford-Wyong District Cricket Association.
  • During 1968, the four remaining WDCA clubs amalgamated into two. Wyong-Tuggerah (as Wyong District Cricket Club) and Toukley-Dooralong (as Toukley District Cricket Club) then joined the GDCA in 1968-69. The amalgamation of the two cricket associations was formalised in 1970.
  • CCCA = Central Coast Cricket Association.
  • The GWDCA was renamed as the CCCA in 2003.
  • 1GT = The number of First Grade Teams
  • First Grade Premiers
  • Not Known = The winner of the competition is not currently known. In some years, the newspapers from the time did not survive to be archived. In other instances, the newspapers do survive, but the result was not reported or any reference to the competition has not yet been found. Further research may fill in some of the gaps.
  • Decider = The method of deciding the major premiership.
  • No (Knock-Out) = In the 1920's and 30's the GDCA premiership was awarded on a league-basis, to the team finishing at the top of the points score. In some seasons, a separate Knock-Out competition was held after the premiership was decided.
  • Play-Off Final = Under the league system, a play-off final was held if the top two teams finished equal on points at the conclusion of the regular season.
  • Final = At the conclusion of the regular season, the top two teams on points played a match, with the winner claiming the title.
  • Finals Series = At the conclusion of the regular season, the top four teams played semi-finals, with the winners meeting in a Final. In most instances the semi-finals were 1st place (minor premiers) v 4th place and 2nd place v 3rd place.
  • Grand Final = At the conclusion of the regular season, the top four teams played major (1st place v 2nd place) and minor (3rd place v 4th place) semi-finals. In the second of three weekends, a Final was played between the loser of the major semi-final played the winner of the minor semi-final. On the third weekend, the Grand Final was played between the winners of the major semi-final and the Final.
  • Points Score = A list showing competition points accrued.
  • Full Table = A table showing competition points accrued along with number of matches won, lost and drawn.
  • Winner Named = The premiership winner was named in the newspapers. This may have occurred in the week following the last or deciding match of the season, or later, such as in a report of a club or associations' Annual General Meeting.
  • Wyong History = The winner is listed in a WDCA premiership table published in the book, 100 years of Wyong District Cricket : Wyong District Cricket centenary, 1912-13 - 2012-13.
  • 2016-17 Team Numbers. A Ladies Twenty20 competition involving four teams was played, concluding in December. A Ladies Come & Try round-robin was played in February and March 2017, involving six teams. That would increase the numbers to 90 teams and 11 grades. As the number of teams from the ladies competitions held in the late 1970s and early 1980s is not yet known, the team and grade tally refers to men's cricket only.
