Story by: Charles Sinclair & Bill Finger
December 8, 1961 (1961-12-08)
Stuart Bailey is alone in a ghost town where he is plagued by a ghostly voice that promises him a terrible death. He is the only person on-screen for the entire episode.
Note: Bill Finger, one of the three co-writers of the episode, was a joint creator, with Bob Kane, of Batman, whose adventures were the subject of the lampoon action-comedy which premiered almost four years later.

Season 6: 1963–64

This season was approached in a noirish way, and it was essentially a different show, with no connection to the original series except for two names carried over: A Private Investigator was named "Stuart Bailey" and still played by Efrem Zimbalist, but he had a different personality and background. Show name "77 Sunset Strip" no longer matched anything in the show, it was not Bailey's address, and not mentioned, just shown as the show title. Even the theme music was changed, the catchy song replaced with generic dramatic music. Perhaps it could have succeeded as a new show featuring Zimbalist, but by claiming to still be 77 Sunset Strip the complete makeover cost the show too many viewers to justify continuing production.
