BC Liquor Distribution Branch

The Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB), a.k.a. the BC Liquor Distribution Branch, is one of the two governmental bodies responsible for distributing alcoholic beverages and regulating and monitoring the liquor industry in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The LDB operates under the Ministry of the Attorney General of British Columbia

The LDB is the only organization allowed to purchase, import, and distribute alcoholic beverages in British Columbia. They employ more than 3,500 people, and operate 197 (as of January, 2010) government liquor stores under the BC Liquor Stores name, found all across the province.

The other governmental body is the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB), which is responsible for regulating and monitoring the industry.

BC Liquor Stores' prices are uniform throughout all locations across the province.

Privately operated liquor stores in BC also sell liquor and receive a 16 per cent discount off the government liquor store prices and set their own retail prices.

The head office is located in Vancouver, with one distribution centre each in Vancouver and Kamloops.

In October 2008, LDB was named one of BC's Top Employers by Mediacorp Canada Inc., which was announced by The Vancouver Sun, The Province and the Victoria Times-Colonist.[1]

On December 5, 2017, the BC Provincial Government determined that the Liquor Distribution Branch would be the sole distributor of recreational marijuana or Cannabis, once the Federal Government legalizes it on July 1, 2018. More information
