The Leader of the City of York Council is the leader of the largest political group in the City of York Council. The Leader of the Council and the cabinet (consisting of all the executive councillors) are collectively accountable for their policies and actions to the city council. The current holder of the office, Ian Gillies, leader of the Conservative group, replaced David Carr on 23 January 2018.[1]
The office was established following the Local Government Act 2000.
