Lauro Gazzolo (born Ilario Gazzolo; 15 October 1900 2 October 1970) was an Italian actor and voice actor. He appeared in 106 films between 1939 and 1966. He was born in Nervi, Genoa, Italy and died in Rome, Italy.

Biography

Gazzolo began his career on screen in 1938 starring in the comedy film The Document and became more successful after the end of World War II. Among his most popular filmography included The Jester's Supper, Four Steps in the Clouds and The Band of Honest Men.

As a voice actor, Gazzolo dubbed foreign films into the Italian language. He was best known for dubbing elderly characters in western films, most notably Walter Brennan's roles in My Darling Clementine and Rio Bravo. He also provided Italian dialogue for films such as Casablanca, It's a Wonderful Life and The Plainsman and he also served as the Italian voice of Bud Abbott of Abbott and Costello. Gazzolo was also renowned for dubbing animated characters in Walt Disney films such as Bashful in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Archimedes in The Sword in the Stone and Jock in Lady and the Tramp.[1]

Personal life

Gazzolo was the father of voice actors Nando and Virginio Gazzolo. Each of his children were from different relationships.
