Larry Cox (January 10, 1961) is an American rock, hard rock and heavy metal drummer – currently with the rock bands Kick Tommy and Deaf Symphony.

History

His first professional work was in 1985 with the rock band Looker, which recorded one independent EP and toured the USA for one year before disbanding.[1]

In 1986 Cox joined the band Tigershark, which was led by guitarist Howard Askeland. (Cox would once again team up with Askeland almost 20 years later when Askland would join Cox's new band Deaf Symphony). Tigershark recorded and played the local Los Angeles scene until Cox left the band to pursue other projects. One of these projects was with the band Northrup, featuring singer Johnny Edwards (Montrose, King Kobra, Foreigner) up in the Sacramento area.[2]

In 1988 Cox joined up with guitarist Neal Grusky and vocalist Jeff Scott Soto (Yngwie Malmsteen, Journey, Soul Sirkus, Trans-Siberian Orchestra) in the band Thunder, the precursor to Takara.[3]

From that project Cox moved on to join RCA recording band Joshua (also performed under the name Jaguar for a time) in 1989,[4] featuring guitarist Joshua Perahia and vocalist Robin Kyle Basauri (Die Happy). Cox remained with Jaguar until 1991.

Cox then took a 14-year hiatus from the music business, and then in 2006 teamed up with guitarist Matt Cerbin to form the recording and performing band Deaf Symphony. They released their first official music video Artificial Intelligence in April 2010. The video (song written by Howard Askeland, Larry Cox and Chris Rogers) was produced by Cox.[5] In 2008 his song Chains of Love was used by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), and the band subsequently became one of the coalitions Celebrity Voices Against Violence along with entertainers such as Big & Rich, Michael Bolton, Harrison Ford.[6] The band has released three albums to date.[7]

In 2015 Cox formed the band Kick Tommy with guitarist Gary Walton and Deaf Symphony vocalist Chris Rogers, and released their debut CD Cold One.[8] They released their first official music video Pray in September 2015. The video (song written by Walton and Cox) was produced by Cox.[9]

Cox is also the creator of Do-It-Yourself Drums,[10] and the DIY Road Cases product line,[11] and is a published author.[12]
