Land Instruments is a manufacturer of industrial infrared temperature measurement devices and gas analysers for monitoring combustion efficiency, pollutant emissions, dust, particulates and fire detection with headquarters in the United Kingdom and has offices and distributors worldwide.[1]

Land has been trading for well over a century. Initially in the silver plate trade, Land’s original factory was opened in 1908 on Queen’s Road, Sheffield, but the company was transformed in 1947 by Tom Land into a hi-tech business developing products for industrial temperature measurement.

In June 2006 LAND became part of the Process & Analytical Instruments Division of AMETEK, Inc., a global supplier of high-end analytical instrumentation, with headquarters in Paoli, Pennsylvania, USA. AMETEK has approximately 11,000 employees, with over 80 manufacturing sites worldwide.[2]

Land has provided a number of innovative solutions to temperature measurement for a variety of industries, including flu screening at airports during the recent avian flu[3] and swine flu[4] epidemics. Land also developed one of the first portable thermal imagers which was successfully used for real time analysis of the jet engines on the Thrust SSC Land Speed Record breaking car.[5]
