Lana is a female given name and surname. Though its origin is disputed, it can be found most frequently in the English speaking countries, Russia,[1] as well as many other European countries.[2] "Lana" can be short for Alana (in English) or Svetlana (in Russian),[1] as well as a derivative of the Greek name Helen.
This name could come from the Gaelic ailin, meaning "little rock". The Irish Gaelic use of this name probably derives from the Gaelic phrase a leanbh, which was used to call a child.
