Lal Paharir Deshe Ja

Lal Paharir Deshe Ja (You belong to the land of red hills) is a Bengali folk music based on a poem written by Arun Chakraborty in 1970s.[1] It was set to tune in 1976 by Subhas Chakrabarty, and has since become a popular song with various interpretations sung by different artists, from folk singers to Urban music artists.

Arun Chakraborty, a folk artist (and engineer by training),[2] wrote the poem after spotting a leafless Mahua tree in at Srirampur Station, he considered the tree to be misfit and thought that it should belong to the red hills.[3]He went home and wrote down his thoughts. He used a tribal dialect while penning the poem.
