Lake Vistonida

Lake Vistonida (Greek: Λίμνη Βιστωνίδα, older form: Βιστωνίς, Bulgarian: Лагос, Буругьол Lagos or Burugyol, Turkish: Borugöl) is a lake in Porto Lagos, Xanthi regional unit, Greece. It is known from Greek Mythology.

Lake Vistonida encompasses a unique ecosystem and the local climate can be described as mid-Mediterranean. It hosts a variety of fauna, which comprise several types of fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, birds as well as flora.

In antiquity, Aristotle wrote that "most species of fishes are found in Lake Vistonida."[1]
