László Bénes (born 9 September 1997) is a Slovak-Hungarian football player who currently plays for Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga.[1] Bénes is Slovakia's most highly rated youngster and has been dubbed as the 'New Marek Hamsik' by the media. Bénes is an energetic midfielder, who has great technique and dribbling ability. He also is great at set pieces and shooting from long range. He is tipped to become a key player in the Slovak national team in the next few years.
Early Life
Was born in Dunajská Streda, an predominantly ethnic Hungarian town, and is part of the ethnic Hungarian minority in Slovakia.
MŠK Žilina
On 6 February 2015, Bénes signed a three-year deal with Fortuna Liga side MŠK Žilina from ETO FC Győr.[2] On 1 July 2016, he has joined Borussia Mönchengladbach.
International career
Bénes was first called up for the Slovakia national football team in May 2017, when Ján Kozák called him up for a FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lithuania national football team on 10 June 2017, just a number of days before the commencement before the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, where Bénes was expected to be one of the team leaders. During this match Bénes made his international debut, when he substituted Ondrej Duda in the 89th minute of the 2-1 victory in Vilnius.
Bénes is eligible for both Hungarian & Slovak national football teams.
