Kyle Joseph Datres (born January 5, 1996) is an American baseball player in the Colorado Rockies organization. He is currently playing for the Boise Hawks in the Class A-Short Season.

He attended Loyalsock Township High School in Central Pennsylvania where he was a three sport athlete. He accepted a full scholarship for baseball to University of North Carolina.

College career

Datres joined the Tar Heels baseball team as a freshman in 2016, in his freshman year Datres hit .250 with a .375 SLG and drove in 3 home runs, 23 runs batted in as well as 37 hits and 38 runs scored. In 2017 Datres had a breakout year hitting .265 with 7 home runs and 51 runs batted in with 48 runs scored and 61 hits Datres became a leader of the team and a legitimate pro prospect. After the 2017 season it was not clear if Datres would enter the 2017 MLB Draft, dozens of teams had expressed interest in drafting him however he decided to return to North Carolina for his junior year. In 2018 for his final season Datres hit 7 home runs, 36 runs batted in and became a staple of the Tar Heels offense. Datres had also led the team in bases stolen with 12 and was only caught stealing twice. However in the final stretch heading into the post season Datres' defense seemed to pick up as well. During North Carolina's run in the 2018 College World Series Datres gained national exposure due to his diving catches and cross diamond throws. Even making Number 4 on ESPN's Top 10 Plays with a bare handed catch and fall-away throw from third to get a out at first against Oregon State.[1]

In 180 career games for the Tar Heels Datres totaled 191 hits, 17 home runs, 110 runs batted in and 155 runs scored. He led the team in hits in 2018, stolen bases in 2018 and hit by pitches in 2017 & 2018.[2][3]

Professional career

Datres was selected with the 366th pick in the 12th round by the Colorado Rockies in the 2018 MLB draft.[4][5]
