Kshitij Patwardhan (born 11 January 1985) is an Indian screenwriter, Theatre director, playwright, lyricist and publisher known for his work in Marathi language.[1]

Kshitij Patwardhan has received Maharashtra State Awards, Pravah Ratna award, Zee Gaurav awards, Sanskruti Kala Darpan awards for his writing works.[2]

In 2015 his three consecutive super hit films made him among the most sought after names in Marathi film industry. The films were Classmates (2015 film), Double Seat and Timepass 2.[3][4]

Early life

Kshitij is born in Pune to a Maharashtrian family, did his education from Bharat Marathi Vidyalaya and Abhinav Marathi Vidyalaya. He started writing from his school days and won many prizes in inter school competitions.

After pursuing a Bachelor of Computer Science and Masters in communication and journalism, he developed an avid interest in writing. While working with SETU advertising in Pune he earned his first 'national creative excellence award for social change' for his print advertisement on 'stop sex selection'. [5]

Later he won this award again for his Hindi song.

Theatre

He rose to prominence with his first Marathi commercial play 'Nava Gadi Nava Rajya'. This play became a huge hit and brought back youth audience to Commercial Marathi theatre. It ran for 475 shows and earned more than 25 awards. [6]

After that he wrote a political satire called Sagle Ubhe Aahet which was appreciated by the critics but failed commercially. [7]

This play later got translated into Gujarati and four other languages. Successful run of more than 475 shows made it quite a sensation.

In 2015, He adapted a short story by Hanumant Moreshwar Marathe into a commercial play Don Special. This play went on to become a modern classic in Marathi theatre history.[10] It had a successful run of 225 shows and awarded with more than 30 awards.[11]

Films

Kshitij wrote his first film in 2010 with Sameer Vidwans, 'Aaghat', it marked the directorial debut of veteran actor Vikram Gokhale. After this, he wrote dialogues of a youth-centric film Satrangi Re with Hemant Dhome.[12]

He penned successful romantic comedies like Time Please, Lagna Pahave Karun and timepass 2. An adaptation of a Malayalam film 'Classmates (2015 film)' made his mark stronger as a Film Writer. The same year, his next release 'Double seat' got much appreciation from moviegoers and critics. It went on to become one of the most successful Marathi films of 2015.[13]

In 2016 he wrote coming of coming of an age Marathi film called YZ (film), which was again praised by critics.[14][15] In 2017 he along with director Aditya Sarpotdar successfully created the first Marathi teenage detective film called 'Faster Fene'.[16] It became a smashing hit and praised by critics and audience. Kshitij is currently writing one of the most ambitious projects in Marathi, Riteish Deshmukh's action drama Mauli.[17]

He has signed a Hindi film and planning to direct a Marathi film soon.

Songs

He has written more than 80 songs for around 30 Marathi films. Including chart buster numbers like Dhaga Dhaga from Daagdi Chaawl[18], Awaz vadav DJ from Poshter Girl[19], Mohini from Double Seat[20], Mana shevantiche Phoo from Baapjanma, Chalu Chal and Rubab Pahije from Half Ticket (2016 film)[21], too name a few.

Advertising

Kshitij has written multiple campaigns for popular Marathi brands. His work includes the campaigns for Pro Kabaddi League 2015 and 2017 featuring Ankush Chaudhari, Saraswat Bank, Cosmos Bank, Lokmat, Sakal publication group..[22]

Publishing

In 2017 who produced and published one of the first of its kind illustrated novel in Marathi called Darya written by Vikram Patwardhan.[23] He is planning to write a short novel and publish other young writers works.[24]
