Kristu Jayanti College, founded in 1999, is managed by "BODHI NIKETAN TRUST", formed by the members of St. Joseph Province of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI). The college is affiliated to Bangalore University. The college is recognized by UGC under the category 2(f) & 12(B). The college was accorded autonomous status from 2013 by the University Grants Commission, Government of Karnataka & the Bangalore University.

History

Kristu Jayanti College, founded in 1999, is run by "BODHI NIKETAN TRUST", formed by the members of St. Joseph Province of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI). The college is affiliated to Bangalore University and is reaccredited with highest grade 'A' by NAAC in Second Cycle of Accreditation. The college is recognized by UGC under the category 2(f) & 12(B). The college was accorded autonomous status in 2013 by the University Grants Commission, Government of Karnataka & the Bangalore University.

Kristu Jayanti College is affiliated to the Bangalore University, the largest University in the country. A majority of higher educational institutions are established in the southern and eastern parts of Bangalore. The northern part of Bangalore District was semi-urban and rural that lacked educational and industrial development.The college was started at K. Narayanapura in Kothanur region. The college had a humble beginning with 1 course, 9 students and 3 full time academic faculty in 1999, has grown exponentially in programmes (42 programmes including two Ph.D. programme), in number of students (6012) and in full time faculty strength (209), all in a matter of 19 years.

The CMI congregation

Kristu Jayanti College, founded in 1999, is managed by the members of St. Joseph Province of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), the first indigenous religious congregation in India. The CMI congregation is the embodiment of the dream and vision of Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the founder of the CMI congregation. He was honoured by the Government of India in 1986, through the release of a postal stamp with his portrait. The CMI congregation with a membership of 2,300, renders services to humanity in educational, social, healthcare and other areas aiming at the prosperity and well-being of the society. Kristu Jayanti College is a minority Christian Institution.

Autonomous status

Kristu Jayanti has become an autonomous college from the academic year 2013-14. It continues to be an affiliated college of the Bangalore University and is autonomous in the sense that it is free to frame its own courses of studies and to adopt innovative methods of teaching and evaluation. The University confers the degrees to the students after passing the examinations held by the college.

Collaborations with Foreign Universities:

Kristu Jayanti College has tied up with foreign Universities like the Appalachian State University, U.S.A., Normandie Business School France, FHDW University, Germany and Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU), Germany to promote teaching, research and exchange programme.

International Student Forum (ISF):

There is an incremental growth in the number of International students. Students from USA, Bangladesh, Iran, Ivory coast, Benin, Guinea, Mauritius, Indonesia, Maldives, Nepal, Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Tibet, Bhutan, Chad, Thailand , Congo, Nigeria, Cameroon, Saudi Arabia and Yemen are studying in the institution. To nurture the educational experience of the International students in the campus, International Students Forum (ISF) was established. ISF is an exclusive forum that caters to the need of the foreign students and offers a safe haven for the International students far distanced from the comfort of their home. The services offered by the ISF are assistance in obtaining residential permit, passport renewal / visa updating, travel help desk, etc.

Research:

The Research Promotion Cell with two wings under Social Work and Biotechnology motivates aspirants towards the acquisition of a doctoral degree. With several ongoing projects, the research promotion cell is dedicated to erudite leadership and aims to advance the knowledge in the respective fields through scientific discovery, collaborative work and national & global outreach. The research programmes are affiliated to Bangalore University.

Faculty:

Faculty improvement is facilitated through programmes like in–house Faculty Development Programme (FDP), department level programmes and Participation in FDPs / Conferences/ Seminars at other institutions and colleges. The institution encourages the faculty members to participate and undertake institutional research and to pursue personal research leading to M.Phil. and Ph.D.

Campus

Kristu Jayanti College is an Autonomous College, under Bangalore University, one of the largest in the country. The college is located at K.Narayanapura, Bangalore, 11 km away from Vidhana Soudha, the heart of Bangalore City.

Infrastructure:

Various departments and administrative sections are housed in the Main Block. The MBA and MCA programmes function in a separate block. The college provides class rooms, libraries, auditoria, laboratories, conference halls, panel rooms, music room, gymnasium and sports facilities.

Library:

The library also has digital resources including a collection of CDs, databases, e-journals, software and projects. There are separate rooms for group discussion, reading and cubicles for personal study. Moreover, an e-library has been set up for e-resource

Computer lab:

The Computer lab is equipped with internet and is open beyond office hours to meet students’ computing needs. The campus is equipped with wi-fi facility.

Bioscience lab:

The department of Life Sciences features four laboratories for Genetics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Microbiology.

The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre (EIC):

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell organizes various Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps, Entrepreneurship Development Programmes and Skill Development Programmes in the institution. The cell collaborates with various external agencies and facilitates interaction with entrepreneurs. EDC serves as a mentor for upcoming Jayantian entrepreneurs. EDC has initiated several training programmes in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad. Several diploma and certificate programmes like Open Learning Programme, Diploma in Entrepreneurship Development, HP sponsored Graduate Entre-preneurship Training in Information Technology and also a Certificate Course in Entrepreneurship Development Programme are offered by the EDC. The cell is also collaborating with National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN).

National Service Scheme (NSS):

NSS is a body for social work affiliated to Bangalore University.

NCC:

The college has an NCC Army wing under 3KAR Bn. Students enroll for a period of 3 years. NCC activities such as parades, camps, outing for map reading, trekking, weapon training, drills, adventure camps, social service, environmental protection, awareness programmes, etc., are organized on a regular basis.
