Kristin Hanggi

Kristin Hanggi (hometown Murrieta Valley, California[1]) is best known for directing and developing the musical Rock of Ages. In 2009, the jukebox musical received five Tony Award nominations, including a nomination for Best Direction of a Musical. She has directed the productions on Broadway, the West End, Australia, Toronto, Las Vegas, and two National Tours.

Hanggi made her feature directorial debut with Grantham & Rose starring Jake T. Austin and Marla Gibbs. Hanggi directed her follow-up, Naomi & Ely's No Kiss List, an adaption of Rachel Kohn and David Levithan's novel of the same name, starring Victoria Justice.

For television, Hanggi adapted and directed the book series, Dear Dumb Diary into a musical movie, under Executive Producer Jerry Zucker for Walden Media.

Hanggi's other stage productions include the pop opera Bare: A Pop Opera, which ran in Los Angeles and off-Broadway. Bare and Hanggi won the Ovation Award for Best Musical, LA Weekly Award for Best Musical, and the Robby Award for Best Director. In January 2018, it was announced that she would adapt the musical into a feature film.[2][3][4]

Hanggi also directed the initial production that launched the Pussycat Dolls, Pussycat Dolls Live at the Roxy with celebrities such as Christina Applegate, Carmen Electra, and special guests Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera, Brittany Murphy, Nikka Costa, and Charlize Theron.

Other stage productions include And the Curtain Rises at the Signature Theater; the winner of the New York's Fringe Festival, Catch The Fish; Twelfth Premise (LA Times Critics Pick); the Los Angeles Premiere of Terrence McNally's Corpus Christi (Ticketholder Award, Best Production; Ticketholder Award, Best Director; Robby Award, Best Director of a Play); Crane, Mississippi (LA Times Critic's Choice,[Backstage West Critic's Pick).

Hanggi is working alongside Amy Heckerling to develop Heckerling's 1995 film Clueless into a musical for the stage.

Hanggi graduated with her Masters from USC after receiving her Bachelors from UCLA in Theater. In June 2013, she returned to her alma mater when she received the UCLA School of Theater, Film, & Television Distinguished Alumni Award.

In 2012 she was living in Fountain Valley, California.[5]
