Kristopher Trindl, better known by his stage name Rain Man, is an American musician, DJ and record producer based in Chicago.[1] He was best known for co-founding the EDM band Krewella.[2] He split with Krewella in 2014, and filed a lawsuit against Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf for $5 million, claiming that he was unfairly "thrown out" of the band. As a solo artist, his single "Bring Back the Summer" peaked on three Billboard charts; Airplay, Dance and Digital at three, twenty and twenty-three respectively.[3]

Background

Trindl was a member and founder of the electronic group Krewella from 2007, alongside songwriting/vocalist sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf.[4] The three met as students at Glenbrook North High School.[5] Their music is a blend of self-produced electro house and dubstep, with influences of many other EDM styles. All three members of the group have "6-8-10" tattoos to commemorate June 8, 2010, the day when the three agreed to give up their careers, schooling, and any other intentions for their lives, to dedicate all of their time to the trio's joint music career.[6]

In December 2011, Monstercat signed Krewella, "Killin' It" was Krewella's first original song. Monstercat promoted Krewella with social media campaigns and partnered with EDM YouTube promotional channels for a larger platform. In June 2012, Krewella released their EP Play Hard. The album rose to #1 on Billboard's Dance Radio Airplay[7] chart and the single placed on the Pop Radio Airplay charts.[8] Krewella has headlined at EDM festivals around the globe including Ultra Music Festival,[9] Electric Daisy Carnival,[10] Stereosonic,[11] Spring Awakening,[12] Sunburn Festival and Paradiso festival. These live performances earned the 2012 International Dance Music Award for "Best Breakthrough Artist."[13] After their performance at Ultra Music Festival 2013, Billboard declared that "Krewella is going to be huge!"[14] Their debut album "Get Wet," charted in the Top 10 of Billboard's Hot 200 in its first week.[15] Krewella teamed up with producer group Cash Cash to make their sophomore single "Live for the Night."[16] In January 2014, Krewella partnered with EDM lifestyle brand Electric Family to produce a collaboration bracelet for which 100% of the proceeds are donated to Dance For Paralysis. The partnership has raised over $17,000 as of April 2014.[17]

2014: Lawsuit

In September 2014, it was announced that Trindl is no longer part of Krewella. Trindl subsequently filed a lawsuit against the sisters for $5 million, claiming that he was unfairly "thrown out" of the group.[18][19] The Yousaf sisters countersued, claiming Trindl had drug and alcohol problems, "pretended to DJ" onstage, and ultimately resigned from the group.[20] Trindl faced alcoholism which caused his removal from Krewella and refused to enter a treatment program which was recommended by the other two members.[2][21] In a transcript from Trindl's lawsuit, he admitted to drinking to deal with the pressure of success.[22] He also accused the sisters for not being supportive of his sobriety, saying that they "didn't like the new, sober Kris".[23] He also claimed that the Jahan and Yasmine only wanted him to enter the treatment program so they could earn money for themselves and remove him out of the group by pressuring him slowly.[24][25] In November 2014, Jahan and Yasmine countersued, claiming in their lawsuit that it was Trindl's decision to resign. They also claimed Trindl refused to learn how to perform on their DJ sets for live shows.[2] Fellow DJ and producer Deadmau5 sent a message on Twitter to would-be trios like Krewella not to "fire the guy who actually does shit".[26][27] The lawsuit was reportedly settled.[28]

2015–present: Solo career

Upon leaving the group, he started a solo career as Rain Man, releasing his debut solo single titled "Visionary", featuring Sirah for Israeli DJ Borgore's label Buygore.[29][30][31] In 2016, he released a single "Bring Back The Summer" on Dim Mak Records. The song was produced overnight, according to Trindl.[32] He is managed by Red Light Management, who also manages DJs like Marshmello, Ookay and Jauz.[33]

Personal life

Trindl went to Glenbrook North High School, where he met Jahan Yousaf and her sister Yasmine Yousaf.[34] He dated Jahan from 2006 until 2011. In 2013, Trindl attended rehab for his alcoholism following a hospitalization due to intoxication at a show.
