Plot

Season 1

1325. King of Poland, Władysław I the Elbow-high decides that his only living son, Prince Casimir will marry the daughter of Giedyminas, Grand Duke of Lithuania. Princess Aldona meets the knight Arunas, when she finds out that her father made a decision about her marriage. The Princess comes to Kraków with a group of trusted people, including Egle and Gabija. From the very beginning the Queen of Poland, Jadwiga of Kalisz, keeps her distance to her future daughter-in-law, and even reveals unconcealed reluctance. Aldona receives the baptism on which she receives the name Anna. Princess and Casimir get married.

1333. After seven years, Anna is already the mother of two daughters, Elizabeth and Cunigunde. It is difficult for her to find herself outside, which is not facilitated by the hostile behavior of Jadwiga, who wants to get rid of her daughter-in-law from the castle. A message about the illness of the king, Władysław, is hidden from Anna. He learns about it by accident. He also hears how Jadwiga states that as long as she is alive, she will wear a crown and prevent the royal coronation of her daughter-in-law, in whom conversion does not believe. Anna is looking for help with her brother Algierdas, who comes to Kraków on her request. Jadwiga accuses them of treason and plotting against the kingdom. Anna can not come to terms with another husband's betrayal when the illegitimate daughter of Casimir, Jolenta, appears in Wawel. Algierdas wants to take her to Lithuania, which is very pleasing to Jadwiga. The princess knows, however, that her place is at the side of her husband and children.

After the death of the king, Jadwiga tries to prevent her daughter-in-law's royal coronation by all possible means. She still does not believe in her conversion and readiness to perform royal functions. In the meantime, Anna notices that Christian faith is very important to her. She begins to oppose the methods used by Egle. The princess feels lonely and surrounded by enemies in the castle. Although she did not expect it, she befriends Casimir's sister, Elizabeth, Queen of Hungary. Together with Anna's brother, Kęstutis, Arunas arrives at Wawel. Anna meets with him to explain to him that she must remain faithful to her husband and Christian faith, and to convince him to disappear from her life. Jadwiga accuses her daughter-in-law of treason. Ultimately, however, despite the efforts of the queen, Anna is crowned along with Casimir. Although the matter is clear, the rumors about the young queen are not silent. Jadwiga still can not come to terms with the loss of the crown and does not intend to stop trying to get rid of her daughter-in-law. He decides to live in a monastery in Sącz, but leaves Wawel in Wawel, whose main task is to follow Anna and report Jadwiga.

The kingdom is circulating about the pregnancy of Queen Anna. The queen is afraid that this time she will give birth to a son whom Casimir so desperately wants and what everyone expects of her.

Anna cares for her mother-in-law's illness, despite the many insults and humiliations she suffered from her. After Jadwiga regained her strength, her attitude towards her daughter-in-law changed. She becomes like a mother to her who has never been. It is very happy for Anna. Katarzyna, however, does not intend to stop the task entrusted to her by Jadwiga, namely – finding Arunas and plunging the young queen. Anna and Egle discover her true intentions and using the fact that Katarzyna constantly eavesdrops at the door of the queen's chamber, they direct her search in the wrong direction.

Under the influence of Katarzyna's manipulation, Anna throws Gabija out of the castle. Katarzyna also leads Jadwiga to order Egle to leave the castle. Queen Anna feels lonely and abandoned by her relatives. She knows that she can not count on anyone. At her request, Casimir orders to look for Egle, which exposes her to her mother, who goes to Sącz again, leaving Katarzyna behind.

Pregnancy is a difficult time for Anna in her life. She feels that, although she is a queen, no one counts with her opinion. Casimir does not listen when she convinces him of Katarzyna's manipulations or when she warns him about Machna. In addition, she often gets ill and the pregnancy is at risk.

After the discovery of another betrayal of Casimir, this time with Machna, Anna wants to escape from it and an accident happens – she falls down the stairs and loses consciousness. After the accident, the queen gives birth to a dead son and her condition worsens. Egle takes care of her friend, she also gives her medicine from Arunas, who even though he became a monk to give his suffering to God, he could not fail to come and try to save his beloved. Anna in the face of death, asks Casimir not to force their daughters to weddings. She wants them to have good and loving husbands in the future who would not cheat on them, but she knows that the king will do what he thinks.

Queen Anna regains her strength thanks to the medicine from Arunas. Casimir asks her for forgiveness and assures her that he will never make her suffer again. Anna is not sure about the credibility of her husband's words, but forgives him, although she knows that it will be difficult for her to forget everything. Eljasz gives sad news to the queen, namely that there is little chance of her being able to remain a mother. Anna is afraid that when Casimir finds out about it, he will turn away from her and she will face a tragic fate. Egle confides, who always supports the queen. Anna decides not to reveal the truth to the king, though she feels guilty. She also comforts Cudka when the maidservant is worried about her father. Cudka is full of admiration for Anna, that she has the strength to constantly endure difficult situations.

1335. Between Anna and Casimir again comes to a quarrel when the king wants to choose a husband for their daughter, Elizabeth. When Casimir learns that Anna will never give him a son again, he gets angry. After the king's departure to Hungary, the queen shows great courage and fortitude during the invasion of the castle. King Casimir, King John I of Bohemia and King Charles I Robert participate in the deliberations during the first Congress of Visegrád. After returning from Hungary, Casimir and Anna forgive each other, but soon the king betrays his wife once again, this time with Cudka. The queen's maidservant has remorse and decides to back to Gołcza, when her husband, Niemierza is on a mission outside the castle. Jadwiga is worried that Casimir does not have a male offspring, so she decides to do something to secure the Polish throne. The queen-mother decides that the successor of Casimir will be the son of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Louis. Anna misses Jadwiga and would like to go to her, but Casimir does not agree. The king wants to dismiss Anna and annul their marriage. The queen feels lonely and abandoned. She confides in Cudka and Katarzyna. Drunk Casimir announces that Anna can no longer have more children. Katarzyna wants to inform Jadwiga about it. After talking with Jaśko from Melsztyn, Casimir changes his mind and wants to reconcile with his wife.

1337. Jadwiga confides in her granddaughter Duchess Constance that she intends to become a nun. Daughter of Anna and Casimir, Princess Kunigunde is ill.
