Kody Lostroh is an American former professional bull rider. He was born in Longmont, Colorado[1] on September 18, 1985. Lostroh watched a video of Cheyenne Frontier Days so many times that his mother signed him up to ride his first steer at the Boulder County Fair. He was seven years old at the time and a complete novice. However, he made it through that first experience. At 11 years of age, he switched riding hands to his right hand. Then he turned his experience into a Little Britches Rodeo National Bull Riding title in 2003. He won the Colorado High School Rodeo Bull Riding Championship three consecutive years.[1] Kody received a scholarship from the University of Wyoming based on bull riding, but quit after a semester to pursue the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) tour. In 2005 Kody Lostroh won the PBR Rookie of the Year award and in 2009 he won the PBR Built Ford Tough Series World Championship. Lostroh has qualified for the PBR World Finals 10 times (2005-2014). He raises bucking bulls in Ault, Colorado at the "Shield of Faith Cattle" company. Lostroh and his wife, Candace, who is a barrel racer, live in Ault, Colorado, with their two daughters.[2]

Lostroh has suffered more than his fair share of injuries throughout his career.[3] For example, Lostroh injured his riding hand in January 2014 and missed most of the first half of that season.[1] In August, 2017, he waffled on making a decision about when to retire. Having a family with two daughters was making it harder to be on the road. Then he was struck down to where he couldn't function and took the doctors awhile to diagnose it. When they did, they found that a tumor had wrapped itself around his carotid artery. He went back to the PBR but still had some reservations.[4]

On March 29, 2018, Lostroh announced his retirement from bull riding. The main reasons he had been leading up to this decision for the last few years were based on health issues and the desire to spend more time with his family. This way, he got to pick the date.[5]
