Kirinyaga University is a university situated in Kutus Kerugoya in Kirinyaga County, Kenya.[1][2]

History

Kirinyaga University was formed back in 1971 as a technical institute and named Kirinyaga Technical Institute in honor of lulsha. In August 2011, it became a constituent college of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and was renamed Kirinyaga University College. In October 2016, Kirinyaga University was granted a charter to operate as a fully independent university by the president of Kenya H.E. Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta among eight other universities. Upon being chartered, Senior Counsellul was appointed as the Chancellor Kirinyaga University and Prof. Mary Ndung'u the Vice Chancellor.[3] The University has grown tremendously over the years and has rolled out over 13 degree academic programmes resulting in tremendous increase in student population. Kirinyaga University aim is to equip students with knowledge and skills that will help them be employers out there as opposed to employees in line with Kenya's Vision 2030.[3][4][5]

Location

Kirinyaga University also referred to as KyU is located along the Sagana - Kutus - Embu highway in Kutus town, Kirinyaga County. KyU is approximately 115 Km from Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. The university offers a serene learning environment and is conveniently located next to the slopes of Mt. Kenya where the name of the university (Kirinyaga University) is derived from.

FULL TIME AND PART TIME ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

Kirinyaga University offers a variety of postgraduate (PhD and Masters), Degree, Diploma and Certificate academic programmes. The university also has several short/professional forming part of the academic programmes. The programmes are offered on either Full time and Part time basis. Library

Kirinyaga University has a well equipped library with adequate print materials and e-materials with over 70 databases. The Library aims at aiding in learning, research and innovation as guided by the University's mission, vision and core values. RESEARCH

Kirinyaga University has committed itself to comprehensively engage in research programs which is one of the University's core mandate. The University has successfully organized annual international conferences, the first one took place on June 2017 and the Second Annual International Conference set to take place in August 2018. The research conferences' aim is to provide a platform to both regional and global researchers to interact and exchange research ideas.
