Kim Jin-woo (born September 26, 1991), better known mononymously Jinwoo or Jinu, is a South Korean singer and actor. He is the lead vocalist of the South Korean boy group Winner, formed in 2013 by YG Entertainment through the survival show Win: Who Is Next.

Biography

Early Life

Jinwoo was born on September 26, 1991 in Imja-do, Sinan County, South Jeolla. He was scouted by Seungri of K-pop boy band Big Bang, who was impressed by his dancing and hence bringing him to YG Entertainment. Following the scouting, he became a trainee at YG Entertainment in 2010.[1] He was a backup dancer at the 2011 YG Family Concert, alongside fellow member Taehyun.

2013-2014: Win: Who Is Next and debut

In 2013, Jinwoo made his first TV Show appearance on Mnet survival program Win: Who Is Next as a trainee under the group Team A. After 100 days of airing, the winner was revealed to be Team A hence proceeding to debut preparations following the end of the show.

In August 2014, Jinwoo made his debut in the boy band Winner, along with fellow members Nam Tae-hyun, Kang Seung-yoon, Mino and Lee Seung-hoon. In Winner, Jinwoo fulfils the position of lead vocalist.[2]

2015-2016: Acting and The Little Prince

In 2016, Jinwoo made his acting debut in the web-drama Magic Cellphone.[3][4]

In November 2016, Jinwoo was announced as the lead in the production of The Little Prince by the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company. He is the first K-pop idol to be part of contemporary dance production.[5] He then starred in the web drama Love For A Thousand More alongside fellow member Seungyoon. The web drama is a joint production of CJ E&M, YG Entertainment, and YGKPlus.[6]

2017-present: Wizard of Nowhere and Live a Good Life

In June 2017, Jinwoo received his first variety show casting offer to join MBC variety show Wizard of Nowhere. Later in the month, the show confirmed he would partake in the show as a fixed member.[7]

In January 2018, Jinwoo appeared on JTBC reality program Live a Good Life as a prisoner along with fellow label-mate Kwon Hyun-bin and Yoo Byung-jae. The reality show is a joint production of YG Entertainment and JTBC.[8]
