Kim Dong-yeon (Hangul: 김동연, Hanja:金東兗; born 28 January 1957) is the Minister of Strategy and Finance and a Deputy Prime Minister of South Korea,[1] appointed by President Moon Jae-in in June 2017.[2]
Biography
Kim graduated from Duksoo High School in 1975, and received a bachelor's degree in Law at Kookjae University (now Seokyeong University) in 1982. In 1993, he received a Ph.D in Policy Studies from the University of Michigan. In 1999 he was appointed Director of ASEM Preparatory and Planning Committee, at the Ministry of Finance and Economy. Kim began rising through the ranks of the then Ministry of Planning Budget. By 2010, he was appointed Deputy Minister for Budget, and in 2012 was made second Vice Minister of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, its third highest position. In February 2015, he was made President of Ajou University[1]
