Kilkenomics Festival

The Kilkenomics Comedy and Economic Festival is an economics and comedy festival in Kilkenny, Ireland, the brainchild of David McWilliams and Roger Cook.[1] Its first session ran from November 11th to November 14th in 2010.

The festival mocks banking and political figures while asking for answers.[2] The festival also features its own currency known as "the marble".[3]

Years

2010

The festival included notable economists, commentators, and comedians. Economists included: David McWilliams, Bill Black, Martín Lousteau, Ha-Joon Chang, Vilhjlmur Bjarnason and Philippe Legrain. Commentators included John Lanchester, Peter Antonioni, Fintan O'Toole, Constantin Gurdgiev, and Olivia O'Leary. Comedians included: Des Bishop, Colin Murphy, Karl Spain, Fred MacAulay, Neil Delamere and Barry Murphy. The festival was sponsored by Penguin and Today FM.[4] The festival sold-out and was well received.[5]

2011

The 2011 session is scheduled for 2 November through 6 November 2011. Attendees will include: Colin Murphy, Karl Spain, Fred MacAulay, Des Bishop, Neil Delamere, Barry Murphy, David McWilliams, Olivia O'Leary, Fintan O'Toole, Shane Ross.[6]

2012

The third year of Kilkenomics included in its line up Max Keiser & Pat Kenny.

2013

Amongst the participants were journalist Liam Halligan, Brian Lucey, Constantin Gurdgiev, David Hall and David McWilliams.

2014

The 2014 Festival had contributions from Max Keiser,[7] Stacey Herbert, David Hall, David McWilliams, Bill Black, Diane Coyle, Simon Kuper, Martín Lousteau and Colm O’Regan.

2015

The 2015 festival included former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis and UK academic and advisor to Jeremy Corbyn, Richard Murphy, as well as Stephanie Kelton, Liam Halligan and Vikas Nath.

2016

Participants at the 2016 Kilkenomics where Brexit was discussed by Liam Halligan(Journalist), Wolfgang Munchau, Diane Coyle, Joris Luyendijk, and Cormac Lucey (Accountant), hosted by Colm O'Regan. Comedian Dara Ó Briain hosted a panel of Rory Cellan-Jones, Nassim Taleb, Rory Sutherland, Diane Coyle, and Joris Juyendijk discussing technology and the future.

2017

The 2017 Kilkenomics was scheduled from Thursday 9 to Sunday 12 November 2017
