Kieran Kennedy (born 23 September 1993) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender for Shrewsbury Town.
Club career
Kennedy started his career at Manchester City, but despite being a regular in their Elite Development Squad he found first-team opportunities hard to come by. He joined Leicester City on loan during the 2013–14 season,[1] mainly playing in their under-21 squad. At the end of that season, Leicester chose to sign him permanently, however the next season he struggled to break into their first-team squad, with the club newly promoted to the English Premier League. He was released by Leicester at the end of the 2014–15 season.
Kennedy initially joined Motherwell on a trial basis, but impressed in pre-season games against Borussia Monchengladbach and Heerenveen to convince boss Ian Baraclough to sign him on a two-year deal.[2] Kennedy made his first-ever start in competitive football in a 3–1 extra-time win against East Fife in the Scottish League Cup.[3]
On 23 March 2017, preceding his release from Motherwell, Kennedy returned to England and joined National League North side AFC Fylde.[4]
On 21 July 2017 after leaving AFC Fylde he joined fellow National League side Macclesfield Town.[5]
On 10 June 2018 it was announced that Kennedy had signed for League One side Shrewsbury Town.[6]
International career
Kennedy has also featured for the England Under-19's team.
Personal life
His grandfather Paddy Kennedy was a footballer who played for Manchester United, Southampton and Blackburn Rovers.
