Mitchell Quilleon Brown, known by his stage name Kid Quill, is an American hip hop recording artist from Shelbyville, Indiana. The name Kid Quill originates from his middle name Quilleon with the addition of Kid to the beginning.[1] He made his first notable appearance with his 2016 debut album The Name Above The Title charting on the Top 10 iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap charts and Billboard Heatseekers. In September 2017, Brown released his second studio album, 94.3 The Reel, that returned to the Top 10 on iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap chart, leading to a headline tour in the fall of 2017.

Soccer career

While attending Shelbyville Senior High School, Brown was a 3-time Hoosier Heritage All-Conference First Team, 2-time Indiana Soccer Coaches Association Top Team Player Awards, 2-time Indiana All-District First Team, 3-time Top Drawer Soccer Player to Watch, 2-time Indianapolis Star Super Team, 2011 Indiana All-State 3rd Team Selection, and 2012 NSCAA Soccer All-American Scholar.[2][3]

He decided to continue his soccer career by playing for DePauw University at the collegiate level. He had three appearances in his freshman year and two in his sophomore year.[4]

His junior year, Brown decided to quit soccer because the balance of music, soccer, and school was too much.[5]

Music career

While in high school, Brown would rap battle friends in his basement. One of his friends decided to record Brown rapping and uploaded it to YouTube where it received a good amount of views.[6] Noticing that there was potential, he decided to pursue rapping.

Near the end of 2014, Brown released several singles and 2015 he embarked on The College Tour & The College Tour: Second Semester. The College Tour included performing at the March Madness Music Festival in Indianapolis, IN alongside Rihanna, Bleachers, and Passion Pit.[7] The College Tour: Second Semester was his first tour headlining all of the shows (except Ubahn Fest[8]). This tour included his first time performing at his college: DePauw University.[9]

Brown started 2015 off with the release of several singles such as Downtime,[10] Dose of Reality,[11] and Shine A Light (Remix).[12] In February 2016, he began The Last Semester Tour. Later on in 2016 he performed at the Common Ground Music Festival in Lansing, Michigan.[13]

On October 14, 2016, Brown released his debut album The Name Above The Title.[14] It charted Top 10 on iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap. It also charted as a Billboard Heatseaker.[15] During the Spring, 2017, Brown completed a 19 show national tour as support.

In September, 2017, Brown followed his first album with 94.3 The Reel. This also charted Top 10 on iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap Charts. He spent the following winter and spring as support on nationals tours with Devvon Terrell and SoMo.

Following the attention from those tours, he released two singles in July: Kids in the Summer and Rain, Rain.
