The Khao Chon Kai Territorial Defence Student-Training Camp (Thai: ค่ายฝึกนักศึกษาวิชาทหารเขาชนไก่) is Royal Thai Army facility located in tambon Lad Yha in Kanchanaburi province, route 3199 (Kanchanaburi - Srinagarind Dam). The main purpose of the camp is for training territorial defence students. On non-training days, activities are provided for normal citizens such as tower jumping, shooting and sightseeing.

Background

The name Khao Chon Kai is in fact believed to have been the home of Khun Krai, father of Khun Phaen which are characters from Thai traditional literature name "Khun Chang Khun Phaen". The land originally belonged to Nang Thongprasri. The word Chon-Kai means cockfighting. This area was mostly used for cockfighting during that era.[1]

Location

The location of Khao Chon Kai camp is Tambon Lad Yha,Amphoe Muang, Kanchanaburi Province, western Thailand.[2]

Time period

During January and February of every year the camp is used for training territorial defence students and then serves tourists for the rest of the year. Khao Chon Kai camp opened as a tourist attraction on 11 March 2000 and first allowed tourists to camp on 11 November 2000.[3]
