Key Largo School, located on mile marker 105, is a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence,[1] and is listed as one of the Top 50 Schools in the State of Florida. Grade levels are K through 8th Grade and are headed by Principal Laura Lietaert. As of 2006, KLS had 995 students. Their mascot is the Tornado and their school colors are Blue and Gold.

Every year, the Key Largo School safety patrols take a trip to Washington D.C. Each patrol raises $800 by the fundraisers such as Yankee Candle Fundraising, Cherry Dale, and Marshmallow City. The school opened its main building in 1950, as a Middle School. And later on built an Elementary School. In 2008, the school demolished the elementary school and built a new building that would fit all grades K-8. The old middle school building now accommodates electives.
