Kevin Clarke (writer)
Kevin Clarke is an English playwright and screenwriter of film and television. He has written more than 150 episodes of television drama, including scripts for Minder, Doctor Who, Wish Me Luck, Wycliffe, The Inspector Linley Mysteries and The Last Detective. He was a principal writer on The Bill for five years.
He grew up in Birkenhead, Merseyside, and left school at 16. Later he studied drama at Bretton Hall and taught drama in a London comprehensive school for five years, learning to write in the evenings and weekends.
Career
He wrote and directed his first play The Jackpot at the Finborough; as a result of its success he was invited to join the first ever BBC Television writers’ training course and commissioned to write for Casualty. His subsequent theatre play Transatlantic, written with Josh Goldstein, ran for three months at the Dramatis Personae Theater in New York, and his third Charity’s Child played at the Riverside Studios. His original comedy screenplay Albert and the Lion was networked by ITV.
In later years Kevin Clarke has gained an Open University degree in History and read History as a postgraduate at Oxford. He is currently researching for a Doctorate.
