Kern Valley State Prison (KVSP) is a male-only state prison in Delano, California. Kern Valley is a Level IV Maximum Security institution. This prison houses 3,721 inmates with a design capacity of 2,448 or 152.0 percent.[2] Kern Valley opened in June 2005 and has an annual operating budget of US$123 million. The facility is adjacent to the North Kern State Prison.
