Kenya Make a Difference is a student run organization designed to help in-need communities within rural areas of Kenya and raise awareness about its culture. The organization is affiliated with the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse[1] and took its third annual trip to Kenya in January 2014. The organization is currently advised by Dr. Paula Knudson, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Assistant Chancellor and Dean of Students.

History

Kenya Make a Difference became affiliated with the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse in April 2012, after a trip of eight UW-La Crosse students traveled to Kenya in January.

During January 2012, Kenya Make a Difference handed out clothes to rural families, constructed a swing set for Kiptenden Elementary School in Nakuru, Kenya, and built an addition to a classroom at Soar Kenya Academy, an elementary school in Barut, Kenya.[2][3][4]

In January 2013, Kenya Make a Difference led a trip to the village of Barut, Kenya. Volunteers built a new kitchen and donated school supplies to Nine Stones, a privately run primary school. The volunteers also distributed clothing and hygiene items to families in the surrounding area and spent time helping at the Haven of Hope orphanage in Nakuru.
