Cheng studied mathematics at Homerton College,[4] Cambridge University but dropped out to become a professional poker player.

Cheng directed The Footlights International Tour Show 2015: Love Handles, which toured the UK, Paris and North America.[5][6] Towards the end of the international tour show, Cheng was detained in the Cayman Islands due to passport issues, and later as a result of a hurricane in the Caribbean.[7][8][9] He returned to UK in time for the final week of shows at the ADC Theatre, Cambridge.[10]
