Kayden Pastel Dunn Jackson (born 22 February 1994) is an English professional footballer who plays for Championship club Ipswich Town as a striker.

He has also represented England C at international level.[2]

Club career

Swindon Town

Born in Bradford,,[3][4] Jackson started out at Blackburn Rovers but left and then joined Albion Sports, where they were playing in the Northern Counties East League Division One.[5] In January 2013, Jackson were among eleven players taking part in the Final of Samsung’s Win A Pro Contract competition.[5] Soon after, he made it in the final cut, along with two other players.[6] In March 2013, Jackson trained with the youth team in bid to 'Win a Pro Contract' competition and played a match at one point.[3][7] The following month, he signed for Swindon Town after winning their 'Win a Pro Contract' competition and signed a twelve month contract from 1 July 2013.[8][9]

During his loan spells away from Swindon Town, Jackson was monitored by his parent club in hopes of making a breakthrough at the club, with Manager Mark Cooper and local newspaper, Swindon Advertiser spoke out about.[10] At the end of the 2013–14 season, however, the club released him, along with nine other players, after they decided against offering them a contract when it expired in the summer.[11] Upon leaving the club, Jackson felt that he was not given a chance to establish himself at Swindon Town.[9]

Jackson joined Swindon Supermarine on loan in August 2013; the deal was extended in September 2013 after he scored five goals in seven games for the club. [12] Although his loan spell at Swindon Supermarine was extended for another month, he was, however, recalled by his parent club in late–October.[13]

After being recalled, he spent another loan spell at Oxford City, having joined them on 1 November 2013.[4][14] The following day, Jackson scored on his Oxford City debut, having came on as a substitute, in a 3–2 win over Harrogate Town.[15] This was followed up by scoring the next two goals against Stockport County and Histon.[16] On 20 December 2013, he had his loan spell at Oxford City extended for the “next couple of months”.[17] After extending his loan spell with the club, it wasn’t until on 11 January 2014 when he scored in a 1–1 draw against Colwyn Bay.[18] Then, on 31 January 2014, Jackson extended his loan spell at Oxford City until the end of the season.[19] He also didn’t score again until on 8 March 2014, in a 2–2 draw against Leamington.[20] At the end of the 2013–14 season, Jackson helped the side avoid relegation, as he made twenty–three appearances and scoring eight times.[21]

Tamworth

After leaving Swindon Town at the end of the 2013–14 season, he joined Tamworth on 21 July 2014.[22]

Jackson made his Tamworth debut, where he started the match, in a 0–0 draw against Harrogate Town in the opening game of the season.[23] In a follow up match against Gloucester City, he scored his first goal for the club, in a 2–1 win for Tamworth.[24] Two weeks later, on 25 August 2014, he scored again, in a 1–1 draw against Boston United.[25] He then went on a two months goal drought and didn’t score until on 4 October 2014 when he scored twice, in a 2–2 draw against Guiseley.[26] Jackson later added three more goal for the side by the end of the year.[27] Later in the 2014–15 season, Jackson’s scoring form struggled as the season progressed, but finished a joint–scorer, along with three other players, with nine goals.[28] He went on to make thirty–six appearances and scoring eight times for the side in his first season at Tamworth.

Wrexham

On 26 June 2015, Jackson left Tamworth in favour of joining Wrexham on a one–year contract.[9][29]

Jackson made his Wrexham debut, where he came on as a substitute, in a 3–1 loss against Bromley in the opening game of the season.[30] A week later on 15 August 2015 against Aldershot Town, he set up a goal for Dominic Vose to score a penalty in the third goal of the game, as Wrexham won 3–0.[31] Since joining the club, he started out as a substitute bench in the number of matches.[32] But as the season progressed, Jackson soon regained his first team place.[33] Since joining the club, he struggled for the most of the season to score goals and it wasn’t until on 23 February 2016 when he scored his first goals, in a 2–0 win over Kidderminster Harriers.[34] Jackson went on to score two more goals later in the 2015–16 season.[35] As a result, his performance was praised by Manager Gary Mills.[36] At the end of the 2015–16 season, Jackson went on to make thirty–six appearances and scoring four times in all competitions.

Following this, Jackson was offered a new contract by Wrexham, with Jackson, himself, keen on staying at the club.[37]

Barnsley

After rejecting a new contract at Wrexham in May 2016, he signed for Barnsley later that month.[38] The move was an undisclosed fee, as he signed a two–year contract with the club.[39]

He signed on loan for Grimsby Town in July 2016.[40] He scored on his debut for the club in a 2–0 win over Morecambe on 6 August 2016.[41][42] It wasn’t until on 9 November 2016 when Jackson scored again in a 4–2 loss against Sheffield United in the EFL Trophy.[43] However, throughout his time at Grimsby Town, Jackson found himself, competing in the starting eleven for the side, but at the same time, on the substitute bench.[44]

Jackson returned to his parent club Barnsley in February 2017 after his season long loan was retracted.[45][46] Despite suffering an injury and eventually his place following the departure of Paul Hurst, he went on to make twenty–four appearances and scoring two times in all competitions.[47] Even after returning to Barnsley, Jackson remained out of the first team for the rest of the 2016–17 season, making no appearances for the side.

Accrington Stanley

Jackson signed for Accrington Stanley for an undisclosed fee on a two-year contract on 21 July 2017.[48] It came after when he went on a trial at Accrington Stanley over the summer and after playing three matches, Jackson impressed Manager John Colemena that he was convinced of signing him.[46][49]

Jackson scored on his debut for Accrington Stanley, on the opening game of the 2017–18 season, in a 3–1 win over Colchester United.[50][51] He then scored the next three goals in two matches against Yeovil Town (twice) and Mansfield Town.[52] For his performance throughout August, he was nominated for Sky Bet League Two’s Player of the Month for August but lost out to Frank Nouble.[53] Since joining the club, Jackson established himself in the starting eleven and formed a partnership with Billy Kee.[54] Together, they helped the side go on a winning form.[55] It wasn’t until on 12 September 2017 when he scored again, in a 2–1 loss against Grimsby Town.[56] However in late–September, he suffered a hip injury that saw him missed two matches.[57] After returning to the first team from injury in early–October, Jackson went on a goal drought for seven matches and ended that drought on 31 December 2017, in a 3–0 win over Grimsby Town.[58] In a follow up match, he provided a hat–trick for the side, in a 4–0 win over Chesterfield and then scored again, in a 2–0 win over Cheltenham Town.[59] By April, having scored 14 goals so far, Jackson scored two more goals later in the season against Exeter City and Wycombe Wanderers.[60] At the end of the 2017–18 season, Jackson scored 16 goals in 44 EFL League Two appearances,[61] to help Accrington claim the title and earn promotion to EFL League One.[62]

Ahead of the 2018–19 season, Jackson was offered a new contract by the club.[63] It came after when he was attracted interests from the side.[64] He made one appearance this season, which came against Gillingham in the opening game of the season, which saw Accrington Stanley lose 2–0.[65]

Ipswich Town

Jackson signed for Ipswich Town on 9 August 2018 on a three-year deal (with an option of a further 12 months) for an undisclosed fee.[66] The move reported to cost £1 million, which was described by The Lancashire Telegraph as " Accrington Stanley’s first million pound sale", and saw him reunited with Manager Hurst.[67] Ipswich Town managed to beat off competitions from "a number of Sky Bet Championship clubs" to sign him.[68]

He made his Ipswich Town debut, where he came on as a substitute for Ellis Harrison, in a 1–0 loss against Rotherham United two days after signing for the club.[69] Three days later, on 14 August 2018, Jackson scored his first goal for the club against Exeter City in the first round of the EFL Cup and saw his side lose 4–2 in a penalty shootout after the game finished 1–1.[70]

International career

Jackson was selected and called up to the England C team in March 2016, to play against Ukraine U23s.[71] Jackson scored the second goal on his international debut in Kiev later that month, as England C ran out 2–0 winners.[72]
